Wine writer Peg Melnik had a blind tasting this week of sauvignon blancs, looking for the most refreshing, the most lively. Our wine of the week winner is the Breggo, 2008 Ferrington Sauvignon Blanc at $25.

2008 Ferrington Sauvignon Blanc ($25) ****½
A complex wine with refreshing acidity. Aromas and flavors of pear, melon, lemon zest and white pepper. Good balance. Crisp finish.

Bright and lively, with complex flavors of melon, guava, herbs and spice. Good acidity.

Grassy, with notes of melon, lemon, lime and spice. Hint of jalapeño in the aromas. Balanced.

McNab Ridge, 2008 Mendocino Sauvignon Blanc, $12. ***½
A tropical Sauvignon Blanc. Grassy, with notes of melon and clove. Nice acid. Balanced. Citrusy finish.
